Microsoft preps Windows XP Service Pack 2 (CRN)
Microsoft will release a test version of its Service Pack 2 for Windows XP in the next week, according to one report. The service pack, which is expected to offer improved patch management and a number of security enhancements, is scheduled to be released in its final form sometime in first half of 2004.

Mystery patch blots Microsoft's fix-free month (ZDNet)
A patch inadvertantly issued this week through the Windows Update service means that Microsoft will not have a patch-free month in December after all. Executives for the software maker are trying to figure out why a patch to plug a security hole in FrontPage was reissued Tuesday night.
