What about Win2000 service pack? (SiliconValley.com)
With Microsoft planning a release of a second service pack for Windows XP, some are wondering when -- or if -- such a delivery will come for enterprise Windows 2000 desktops. Gartner analyst John Pescatore says Microsoft needs to issue a service pack for Win2000 to address security concerns. About 70% of Microsoft enterprise customers use that version of the OS for the desktop.

CHAPTER OF THE WEEK
Active Directory Schema
This chapter from the book Inside Active Directory, by Sakari Kouti and Mika Seitsonen, describes the Active Directory data model and the way in which the rules of the schema enforce it. You can approach this chapter with three purposes: to understand how AD works behind the scenes; to enhance administration by learning (for example, which attributes are indexed to make searches faster); to learn the tech background to extend the schema of your forest.

IT SURVIVAL KIT
Is it fake or is it Microsoft?
Have you been a recent recipient of security-related e-mail from "Microsoft-like" addresses? The names associated with their SMTP addresses never include microsoft.com as the domain name, making it hard to tell if the e-mail is legitimate. Some of these e-mails are fake and could contain a virus. This tip outlines rules you should follow to determine whether any e-mail that claims to originate from Microsoft is legitimate.

THE MISSING LINK
Boredom cure expensive in Germany

This is the kind of shopping spree that would make Paris Hilton blush. Here are the astounding numbers: one Internet connection, two hours, three German teenagers and nearly $160 million. The teens hacked into an account at an auction Web site and went wild -- like geeks in a computer store. They bought small planes, patents, industrial machinery, restaurants and artwork, with money they didn't even begin to have. German authorities are looking into the spree. The kids said they did it because they were bored.
