TROUBLESHOOTING "CONFLICTING CREDENTIALS" ERRORS | Serdar Yegulalp

When Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003 systems establish connections
between each other for file and printer sharing, permissions for
those connections are verified by passing a username and password
from the client to the server. When attempting to connect one machine
to another, we frequently get a frustrating error that reads: The
credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials.

firewall. So, which one of the two should you choose?
The answer is both, and this tip shows you why.

SIMPLE KERBEROS CONFIGURATION | James Michael Stewart

Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 use Kerberos to
protect the logon credentials users provide. It serves no other
purpose than to protect authentication traffic. The protected traffic
could be between clients and domain controllers (which serve as a
distributed KDCs (Key Distribution Centers), between clients and
servers or between servers and the KDC.

For most situations, the default configuration of Kerberos is
suitable. However, if you want to improve your security setup there
are at least five configuration settings you can adjust in group
policy.

WINDOWS 98: DEAD MAN WALKING | Column

It wasn't as dramatic as a last-minute stay from the governor.
Nonetheless, Windows 98 got a reprieve from execution last week.

Rather than end support for the desktop OS today, as scheduled,
Microsoft will continue to offer paid support until the middle of
2006. That goes for Windows 98 SE and Windows ME, as well. By then,
the only users who'll still be firing up those versions are the
people who are still driving '72 Chevy Impalas today. Great car. Just
a wee past its prime.
