Improving the default domain GPOs
[James Michael Stewart]
When Windows Server 2003 is used to establish an Active Directory based network, there are two default GPOs -- the default domain GPO and the default domain controller GPO. These GPOs are configured to provide a basic minimal level of security for your domain network and its domain controllers. However, there are several ways to improve upon the default settings in these two GPOs. Read this tip to find out how.

NEWS: Microsoft content chief rounds up security info
Just about all of the content on Microsoft's Web site emanates from the organization led by Rich Kaplan, corporate vice president of content delivery. The group also oversees materials used in Microsoft's certification and e-learning programs. In an interview with SearchWin2000.com, Kaplan talked about what's new with TechNet, security certifications and e-learning.
TOPICS: Windows management: Assessing the options
Look for a new MOM, SMS service and feature packs and "lite" versions of both platforms in the coming months. Plus the ever-popular, still-free Software Update Services (now WUS).
ASK THE EXPERTS: Ask Jeremy Moskowitz: Are group policies cumulative?
Dear Jeremy,
Are group policies cumulative? If a GP is assigned to the domain and then a separate GP is assigned to an OU, do features of the domain GP filter down to the OU and apply with features set in the OU GP as long as they don't conflict? I thought that if a GP was assigned to an OU its features would overwrite any features set by a GP assigned to a level above.
