Microsoft has announced the addition of an IBM Lotus Notes add-on pack for its Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2003.

Novell lifts lid on open-source .NET toolkit

Here's a kind of Mono developers wouldn't mind catching: Novell this week lifted the lid on a test version of the Mono open-source platform that lets developers create .NET applications that can run not only on Windows, but on Linux and Unix to boot. Mono 1.0 is scheduled to be ready by the end of this quarter.

Microsoft to Mozilla: Why can't we be friends?

The open-source community may be pooling resources in order to avoid being gored by Longhorn, but Microsoft is trying to dispel any fears. The company said this week that it is offering "friendly" advice to Mozilla browser groups and looking for ways the two sides can benefit from Longhorn's advancements.

You don't call Helga "an old tart" and get away with it. When a 66-year-old man (Dieter) in Germany sent his ex an e-mail containing said slight, she filed a complaint. He ended up being prosecuted and fined $120 for insulting behavior. It may not have been so bad had Dieter not also written that Helga's new partner "should have gotten somebody younger and more attractive for his money." Achtung, baby. Evidently, spam in German inboxes is one thing, but a slam is another matter entirely.
