CHAPTER OF THE WEEK:  'Creating a fault-tolerant environment'
The key to achieving higher availability is creating a solid, fault-tolerant environment. In this chapter, from the book "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Insider Solutions," by Rand Morimoto et al, learn how to make full use of Volume Shadow Copy, optimize disk management for fault tolerance, leverage network load balancing and many other important steps to avoid downtime.

TIP:  Windows Small Business Server 2003 installation issues
Windows Small Business Server 2003 is designed to run in small network environments where there are no other domains and no domain trusts. Only one of these servers can exist in a domain, and it must be the domain controller and Active Directory repository. However, when SBS is installed, it isn't automatically promoted to the status of a domain controller and doesn't have Active Directory installed; the administrator has to do this manually. Learn how in this tip.

The Missing Link

Cool cybercafes put the 'in' in login
[Reuters]
The envelopes, please. The winners of the first Yahoo Mail Internet Cafe Awards -- because there just aren't enough awards ceremonies in the world -- include a hip little wired joint in Moscow's Red Square called The Phlegmatic Dog, the comfy Cafe Curve in Brighton on England's south coast and Brain Wash in San Francisco, where customers can wash their whites with Surf laundry detergent while they surf. And let's not forget the winner of the coveted world's Most Remote Internet Cafe award, won by a place in Timbuktu, Mali, proving that Timbuktu may be losing some of its isolated charm. Before you know it, there'll be a Starbucks there. Yahoo sponsored the awards to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first cybercafe, Cafe Cyberia in London. The cafes have been spreading like the Klez virus ever since -- about 20,000 in 171 countries.
