     Expert Technical Advice:

    Featured Expert: Christa Anderson
    Categories: Terminal Services

    Dear Christa,
Within Terminal Services in admin mode you get full admin ability -- at least that's what I understand. With TS set to the other mode, is there application sharing? What, if any, admin ability is lost? Basically I need full admin ability but I need more than two remote connections. I thought the best thing to do would be to change the mode of TS. What do you think?

    Site Exclusives:
    >> Manually blocking auto-deployment of Windows XP Service Pack 2
With Windows XP SP2 now in wide release, many administrators are scrambling to get it rolled out to as many computers as possible. However, there may be some machines that administrators do not want to have updated, although they may still want them to be able to participate in other automatic software updates (just not Service Pack 2). Find out more from site expert Serdar Yegulalp.

    >> Getting a leg up on Longhorn certification
Microsoft says it will ship its next client operating system -- currently code-named Longhorn -- in 2006 with a server release to follow in 2007. That may seem an eternity away, but it's not too early to start thinking about Longhorn certification since Microsoft could announce plans to discontinue older-generation cert programs as early as June 2005. Expert Ed Tittel explains.

    >> Replacing Windows default client with secureCRT pop-up
    Dear Paul Hinsberg,
"I work for a large ISP that is constantly expanding and adding new devices on the network. DNS records are kept up to date but currently I have to go through and build templates one by one for secureCRT for all the new devices. Is there any way from CMD.exe on XP Pro that I could type telnet timbukto.rtr1 and have secureCRT pop-up instead of the Windows default client?" Expert Paul Hinsberg provides this reader with step-by-step instructions.

    Tip of the Week:
We've all heard how Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 can co-exist peacefully on the same network. While that is basically true, a few issues are often overlooked or pushed under the rug when this discussion takes place. One of the most significant issues is the schema version of the forest.
