TIP OF THE DAY:
Manual vs. automatic row locking (or conditional application locking)
Everyone familiar with SQL Server should be familiar with the row-locking mechanism: any row in a table that is being updated or read will be row-locked to keep other processes from changing it or reading data that may be modified. There are exceptions to this, of course, such as when the user issues a lock hint such as SELECT... WITH (NOLOCK), but the way SQL Server handles locks is one of the things that makes it an
enterprise-class database system.

Can you hear me now? Cheers!

Raise your glass to technology -- it's really raising the bar. Several London establishments are now part of a service wherein you log onto a Web site (www.buymeabeer.com), pick a libation, enter a friend's cell phone number and a personal message, and then prepay the tab. The recipient of your generosity then goes to one of the participating pubs and shows the text message -- then voila -- a free drink. This toast of technology
and "ale" of an idea is a good way to buy your buddy a Bud without having to actually move out of your chair.
