Restoring deleted or "tombstoned" objects in Active Directory
[SearchWin2000.com]
When an object is deleted from Active Directory, it is not immediately erased, but is marked for future deletion. The marker used to designate an AD object scheduled to be destroyed is called, appropriately enough, a "tombstone." Normally, doing a manual undelete of tombstoned object is a bit of a hassle; it often involves performing an authoritative backup restore, which is not a trivial operation. Find out how to restore these objects without the backup restore.

Ask the Expert: How can I change the product ID in Win 2000 without being fined by Microsoft?
[Serdar Yegulalp]
Dear Serdar,
I recently searched Microsoft KnowledgeBase, Google and other IT forums to see how to change the product ID in Windows 2000. Unfortunately, I could only find out how to change the Product ID in Windows XP. Is there a way to change it in a Windows 2000 environment?

Administrators prove to be spam pragmatists

IT organizations watched the recent controversy over the proposed Sender ID standard with only a passing interest. They've got bigger phish to fry.

Blocking spyware via the ActiveX kill bit
[Serdar Yegulalp]
Administrators trying to come up with a proactive way to block spyware from infesting workstations often have to make difficult choices. Restricting the functionality of IE to prevent spyware from taking root can be cumbersome. Third-party programs require installation and maintenance to be useful. Switching to another browser doesn't always resolve the problem, either, as there are now breeds of spyware that operate through Netscape/Mozilla as well. Check out this registry hack which solves the problem without IE changes.
