Longhorn development raising virus concerns

A Symantec official says a scripting tool that is planned for Longhorn could be a vehicle for the creation of malicious code. Microsoft Shell, or Monad, is expected to allow Windows systems to be configured through text scripts that use multiple commands, a feature Symantec thinks can be exploited. Microsoft said security features in Longhorn will prevent that.

Marc Andreessen, a former executive of Netscape, says Apple's Safari and Mozilla's Firefox are a potent combined threat to Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. He predicted that the renewed competition will force Microsoft to add more features to IE to maintain its dominant position.
