Microsoft unveils desktop search tool

Microsoft has released MSN Toolbar Suite, a desktop search tool to compete with Google's recently launched tool. Both the Microsoft and Google search tools are designed for use on newer versions of Windows and allow users to scan drives quickly for documents in various formats, including e-mail, IM and PDF.

Symantec reportedly nearing Veritas purchase
[Reuters]
Security software maker Symantec is in negotiations to acquire storage company Veritas Software for $13 billion, according to The New York Times. A deal could be announced as early as this week, the paper reported.
