Tools that brighten IT's day
[by John Hogan]

Whether your IT organization is big or small, software tools probably help it run more smoothly. Some of these tools are one-trick ponies for things like a migration. Use it once and you're done with it. Others, such as patch managers, get a regular workout.

Recently, SearchWin2000.com ran a series of articles about some of the best tools for a Windows environment. While many of the examples we cited were freeware, experts we talked to also recommended that administrators consider paid versions if their situation required something a little more heavy duty.

After checking out our special report on Windows tools, please take a moment to cast your vote in our instant poll about your favorite Microsoft-made IT tool.

And, as always, if you have a comment or question about something you've read on our site, send me an e-mail. Your opinion matters.
