Microsoft announces plans for cheap tablet PC

A Windows executive with Microsoft Germany said the software maker is planning to partner with hardware manufacturers to produce an inexpensive tablet PC. The move aims to spur adoption of its Tablet PC edition of Windows XP, which Microsoft thinks has been held back by high prices for tablets. The new unit would be priced at about $1,500.
