The Missing Link

Waste not, want not
[The Washington Post]
The shiny new BlackBerry that you bought as an upgrade to your featureless cell phone may be giving Mother Nature a raspberry. Last year Americans disposed of nearly 20 million tons of electronic products, and environmentalists are saying the load is overwhelming the bandwidth of the nation's landfills. Retailers like Staples and Office Depot have stepped up to offer recycling programs, but with the new Mac mini hitting the shelves this week, things may only get worse.

Editor's note: A Missing Link published on Jan. 17 was based on an article that has been discovered to be hoax. According to Reuters, a Romanian tabloid has fired a reporter for making up a story about a couple who named their baby Yahoo as a sign of gratitude for meeting over the Internet.
