You have the ATA100 drive on the same cable as the PIO 3/4 ZIP. If the
interface tries to talk too fast, the Zip will get confused in a hurry.

The initialization scripts (or an hdparm command you entered) is trying to
force the zip to talk faster. This is just telling you the zip is not
fooled.
To correct this situation, move the zip to /dev/hdd. If your hard disk
still doesn't go to ata100 at that point, (assuming you have an ata100
cable installed as well) and you are willing to RISK DISK CORRUPTION,
then try booting with the following lilo command:
LILO: linux ide0=ata66
(I know you want 100, but the command is ata66 for both 66/100)
Then see how it works (or doesn't!) before making the change permanent in
an append statement in lilo.conf.
