Tulip drivers are notoriously troublesome. I've had a little trouble
with them in the past myslef. Not nearly the level that others seems to
experience.

I use Linksys for my only tulip-based boards. Some of them depend almost
totally on old drivers. Some of them can't use old drivers. Some of them
can use anything. I'm blessed (if you wanna call it that) with ones that
can't use old ones. That caused problems in the beginning. Now it's just
a problem when I upgrade kernels and the boot doesn't like to locate the
board as it should. That's always been fixable, except for 2.4.3 when it
didn't work at all for me.
