I have noticed a lot of these errors in my /var/log/messages
Jul 18 01:00:10 ogri kernel: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Jul 18 01:00:10 ogri kernel: hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 {
DriveStatusError
BadCRC }
Iam currently using kernel 2.4.5-10 (but i have always had them in even
with the standard kernel and the 2.4.3-12 as well)
My motherboard is the Abit KT7 (no raid and no onboard audio) with a 1.3
athlon Thunderbird running on 100Mhz FSB with 512 MB Ram.
hda: Samsung ST310212A 20GB (ata33 i think).
I ve disabled dma in the bios to see if it helps, also tried another
cable and another hdd and still the same errors.
I know the hdd is not faulty, from what i understand dma is enabled by
default in the kernel.
Basically what do these errors mean? ( i have found several different
answers on various mailing list posted from other people, but iam still
unsure as to why this is happening)
and secondly how could i stop them happening and what would be the
cause.
As i don't know where exactly to look ive cut+pasted some of my outputs
from /proc and /var/log/messages to see if it would help anyone..
This is the output of 'car /proc/ide/via:
