Would MRTG do the trick for you?

Subject: Keeping track of downloaded data.

I have Redhat 7.1 setup as a gateway/web server/file server on my home
cable
connection. What I want to be able to do is keep track of how much data
is
uploaded/downloaded on the various interfaces by month. Is there a way
to
do this?

I've tried using the numbers ifconfig gives, but they are just wrong.

[root@linux /root]# ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:C0:F0:48:58:05
          inet addr:192.168.10.100  Bcast:192.168.10.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
          <-- CUT -->
          RX bytes:1632447550 (1556.8 Mb)  TX bytes:2074240859 (1978.1
Mb)

eth1      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:60:97:80:BF:8E
          inet addr:<externale IP>  Bcast:24.77.77.255
Mask:255.255.254.0
          < -- CUT -->
          RX bytes:3443457264 (3283.9 Mb)  TX bytes:709127205 (676.2 Mb)

it says that eth1 (the internet interface) has downloaded 3.2G, and eth0
has
sent 1.9G But, all the traffic that goes through eth1 (except about 10M
off
the http server) goes through eth0 as well. Plus eth0 has have several
gigs
of MP3's streamed off it.
