Hmmm.... We switched from sendmail to qmail a good while ago, and part of
this process involved converting the user mbox files into Maildir stores
where each message is kept as a single file.
You may want to check www.qmail.org for a script called mbox2maildir, I'm
sure it can be modified to do what you want. No reason to re-invent the
wheel :-)
