gone ?  as in deleted, replaced-with-older-version ?   timestamps revert ?
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0  ?

do the  DEVICE's in ifcfg-eth*  match the filename ?   they must !

do you mean that when you do following, you see changes in 'ls'

cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
ls -l ifcfg-eth*
service network restart
ls -l ifcfg-eth*

you might want to verify your initscripts,
`rpm -ql initscripts` to see what youre checking.

[jimc@groucho jimc]$ rpm -y initscripts
S.5....T c /etc/inittab
S.5....T c /etc/rc.d/rc.local
S.5....T c /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-lo
.M?.....   /usr/sbin/usernetctl

Im comfortable with my personal diffs.
