Thanks for the suggestion.

In an earlier attempt i did install and run Firestarter.
Even with the proper settings i had a problem with the lan.
That application used to be my favorite firewall when i had 7.0.

The reason behind the search for an easily implementable solution is this.
Im gone to work.Kid needs the internet he switches the machine on
and just lets it at that.Same would apply for the wife.
No need to log in my machine at all to start the firewall or connection.

Now the specifics.
I went into the rc scripts and haven't found where the "built in"
firewall is launched from. There is ipchains and iptables in there
in multiple run levels.
What's the name of what i need to remove ?

To start Firestarter automatically on login .
Should the firewall be started before or after log in ?
And if so how do i do that ?
I read that after or before dosent make much difference since the time
where the machine is actually " open " is very small.
Any comments ?

Third and last.Ipchains or iptables ?
I read a bit and it seems that the new tendency is towards iptables.
Which one is the best ?
Is there one of these that i really should be making more efforts
in trying to learn ?

Thanks for the suggestions and your patience.
