OK. Figured it out. My sshd_config file enabled X forwarding and
apparently Red Hat did not compile in X forwarding support to the distro
RPM. Comment out that line and all is well. I still can't figure out
why it worked if went out then came back in though. I'll just have to
recompile the source RPM with X forwarding. thanks for the help (and
for the record loglevel DEBUG is not very helpful with OpenSSH).
