Is there a way and/or reason to inform lpd of the amount of installed
memory in my LaserJet printer?

In other operating systems (Win9x and OS/2, in my experience) the LaserJet
drivers allow you to specify the amount of installed RAM. Presumably this
is to acheive better performance in sending jobs to the printer.

(Note that my LaserJet is connected to my Linux box by a 100Mbps network
interface, not via parallel port.)

So... can/should Linux's lpd drivers be aware of my printer's memory?

Thanks.
