Looks like intervention needed.

Good guess. Now, "consoletype" probably tells you whether or not you're running
on a "pty" ("man consoletype" would help here). If we are, we unset LANG.

If you don't know what a pty is, no comment will help you.

Yes, this could be better documented. I don't think it's incomprehensible
the way it is now though.
------ If it is "NOT better documented" now then it is definitely "NOT comprehensible".

Please do not try to defend where it is not possible.

"Designers and Coders HATE Documentation"  is a known fact. You or anyone else is not new to this fact. Ask yourself once again.

"Designers and Coders of repute and fame ensure 100% readable and comprehensible Documentation of their work"

"RFC's and all such documentation are the greatest examples of the time."

Each time when you refer to using  "man <something>" essentially you are refering to excellent documentation done by some one else with pain and effort who did not bother about being over or under staffed. Such mailing lists provide enough material for creating excellent documents over a period of time. Do look at this point of view and may be start that work some where. Do you know why REDHAT became popular at all when so many other LINUX distros have been around. Simple one reason is, it had been packed with good documentation all along. The default home page of a fresh installation would point to the various Guides etc. if installed locally. (Sadly some NUT decided that such links are not needed anymore, and now more and more links point to the WWW.REDHAT.COM).
