My opinion which I doubt is worth even 2¢...

- More eye-candy.
I personally could care less about eye candy. I know most people like to have their
PC look all nice and beautiful and interesting.
I'm the sick sort of whacko that likes to make their PC look professional (no
backgrounds, neat folders and menus, and no wingdings
and cookythings dancing around the screen.) That's just the personnal opinion of a
whacko though. Perhaps eye candy would appeal
to those users who are deep into Multimedia, music, and movie editing, and more
importantly the plane old home users who likes
flashy setups. Might be a smart marketing move to get more people using RedHat as a
desktop/workstation. Not at the price of
stability though. Only hire the starving artists if you can afford to do the rest to
the same degree as always. Look what
sacrifice got Mandrake... problems.

- Newer servers.
Agreed I want Postfix POSTFIX POSTFIX POSTFIX (by default, or as an option at setup,
not that I can't replace it anyway...)

- More crypto.
I want Nortel Networks to make their GD Contivity client for Linux... (that's not
RedHat's mission by any means so you can pretty
much disregard my rant on this one)

- Office tools.
Both Star Office 5.2 and Word Perfect 8 work on RedHat 7.1, and I would assume any
future version. Sure it's not an RPM but both
are easy to install. And Star Office can open up to and including Office 2000
documents (and possibly even Office XP documents.) So
with this maybe SO5.2 isn't the best but it's a damn good start destined to improve
with time like a fine wine... (speaking of which
look at my added section below...) besides I try to remember that RedHat is an OS
developer not an Office Suite developer... it's
hard to request that they develop a huge all functional office suite out of thin
air... but then Microsoft is an OS maker with a
close knit office suite... and if RedHat wants to compete with big satan then mayhaps
they should make the same moves for the same
markets and just do a better job for free... (well charge for support, I understand
you are a company trying to make money
afterall...) or charge much much much less for you office suite than microsoft.
$49.95 for a good office suite isn't too much to
ask... i almost threw up when i saw how much office xp standard UPGRADE would have
cost me. It made me so mad I uninstalled Office
2000 on my windows partition and installed SO5.2...

- WINE Development
OK, the day I can play Everqeust without Windows I can truly be free of the evil that
is Windows... I have a level 45 cleric of
Bristlebane whom I have devoted many days of my life to (literally) and I am not
giving that time up for Linux... this is Sony's
fault too for not building it for Linux as well, but WINE could be a solution too...

That's my request for the next version of RedHat whether it be 7.1.0.0.0.0.0.1A or 8.0
or 10.0.
