Could you be more specific? "a problem with my connection" = ???
If you have a "linmodem", you must first have a special driver compiled for your kernel. If you have a true modem, then see 'man wvdial'. Red Hat's /usr/bin/rp3 is the best way to start/stop a wvdial modem connection.
