I upgraded the kernel of rh 7.1 2 with up2date a few days ago. It did change the lilo.conf. It added the new kernel, made it default, and renamed the old kernel in it. The only downside is that it removed the /usr/src/linux-<version> dir of the previous kernel. There is the problem with the very distorted sound. But i do not know if this has anything to do with upgrading the kernel with up2date.
