Not a solution, but the Qualcomm POP server supports XTND XMIT. 
This can work with Eudora (and maybe other clients) to force a log in 
before sending through the POP server. The send operations are local 
to the machine.

   I would expect that the /etc/sasldb file needs to be mode 600 and 
owned by root.
