I want to connect to computers over PPP. I installed them fresh out of the box.
Now I get a problem, that apparently ppp can not connect to the serial line. If I startup pppd I do not see anything like ppp0<-->/dev/ttyS1 in the log. If I do a "ifconfig ppp0" I get: "ppp0: error fetching interface information: Device not found". On stopping the pppd I get a message: "kernel: rs_close: bad serial port count; tty->count is 1, state->count is 2". There is nothing wrong with the serial ports, I can start kermit and talk to a modem connected to the port. I have a bad feeling, that I am missing something very obvious, but can't find out what it is. Can anyone shine a light on this matter???
