In general, yes.

I had a weird issue though. Install went fine, but when it came up I
couldn't log in either as me or as root! Both with kdm and a console login!

I then booted up into 'linux single' and got a prompt. Went something like
this:

$ su [another user]
...ok...
$ su micah
Password: [entered correct password]
Error: bad password
$ su
Password: [entered correct password]
Error: bad password
$ su leroy
Password: [entered correct password]
$ [yes, it worked for him!!!]
^D^D [back to root shell]
$ passwd micah
[changed password to what I know it was]
$ passwd
[also changed root's password to what I know it was]
[repeat first few steps above with exact same result]
$ passwd micah
[changed password to a DIFFERENT password]
$ passwd
[also different password for root]
[repeat first few steps above]
and it WORKED!!!

At some point in there I realized that passwords were not shadowed, and ran
pwconv. I'm not 100% sure, but I *think* they were shadowed in my 7.1
install.
