Looking through my /var/log/message I found the
following (site name has been deleted) :

Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx kernel: NVRM: loading NVIDIA
kernel module version 1.0-1541
Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx kernel: Linux agpgart interface
v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann
Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx kernel: agpgart: Maximum main
memory to use for agp memory: 816M
Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx kernel: agpgart: Unsupported AMD
chipset (device id: 700e), you might want to
try agp_try_unsupported=1.
Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx insmod:
/lib/modules/2.4.3-12/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o:
init_module:
No such device
Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx insmod: Hint: insmod errors can be
caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters
Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx insmod:
/lib/modules/2.4.3-12/kernel/drivers/char/agp/agpgart.o:
insmod agpgart failed
Oct 26 10:19:46 xxx kernel: NVRM: AGPGART: unable to
retrieve symbol table

The machine is a 1.4GHz Athlon with a Asus A7M266
motherboard and a Asus Video card which is capable of
AGP 4X support. I presume that this message this
represents a problem with AGP support. The system
seems to work OK, but sometimes hangs when running the
screen-saver.

Q : what should I alter, and in what file, to
get this working?
