Yes.  I'm building one with twelve 120GB disks.  We can fill these up
in a couple of months.  Speed is not really an issue (they just need
to be "fast enough") but the group I'm working with really does need
to have this much data online and immediately accessible.

All of my backups are managed by Amanda; I've been using it for
something like eight years now.  The array itself is divided into
several logical volumes of varying sizes, but never larger than the
tape drive we currently have.  (Except for temporary volumes, which we
don't back up.)  We use an Exabyte Mammoth-2 which holds 60GB
uncompressed.

Amanda manages the backup schedule, making sure that everything gets
at least an incremental every night.
