If you're having a hard time editing data from the MySQL shell, you
might want to look into a web-based manager such as phpMyAdmin:
http://phpwizard.net/projects/phpMyAdmin/ 

However, you should get to know what the commands mean.  You might
want to pick up a good book or search the net for some tutorials.  The
MySQL online manual can also be helpful.

For the root user anyway.  If you'll be connecting to MySQL from the
same server only, localhost is a good option to use.
