I am having the same network problem on 2.4.10. I do have alias eth0 3c59x
in my /etc/modules.conf. The 2.4.2-2 kernel works fine but 2.4.10 fails
eth0.

Ok.

That is the 3com driver. Are you sure your new kernel has got that module?

find /lib/modules/2.4.10-x/ -name 3c90x

I might be wrong, but I think Red Hat does not package that driver anymore.
Actually I think that driver is not available for the 2.4 but only for the
2.2 Kernel.

Use 3c59x

i.e.:
alias eth0 3c59x
in your modules.conf. Should work fine.

Wonder how the 3c90x got in there. Did you upgrade from an older version?
