I tried to install onto RAID 1 partitions but using fdisk to partition the 
disk.  I  set the partitions to linux raid autodetect (FD) but the install 
program told me it could not install onto an RAID.  It expected ordinary 
old linux partitions.

That's why I use the "tricky" technique.
