-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello seawolf-list,
I've been installing and configuring RH 7.1 onto a Toshiba Portege 3015CT off and on for the past couple weeks. Today, I decided to install all of the updates that have come out since 7.1. Now, at the end of the process, I find that somewhere along the way, I lost the ability to talk with the combo modem / Ethernet card I was using (purely for Ethernet, for now). That card is a Xircom CBEM56G-100. Looking at /var/log/messages, I see that cardmgr is recognizing the card in socket 0. It executes 'modprobe cb_enabler' and 'modprobe xircom_cb'. I see a message that says, from /etc/hotplug/net.agent, 'register event not handled'. I see that cardmgr executes 'modprobe serial_cb'. I see messages: cardmgr + modprobe: Can't locate module serial_cb cardmgr: module /lib/modules/2.4.3-12/pcmcia/serial_cb.o not available [although I find that path, a symlink pointing to another file that exists] after several other messages in the log, I see the message: eth0: Xircom cardbus revision 3 at irq 11 This seems to me to be saying that it's pretty well recognized, but just a couple lines later, after some IPX Copyright messages and a NET4 identification, cardmgr says: don't know how to make device "xircom_cb" /dev/xircom_cb: No such file or directory Sure enough, there is no /dev/xircom_cb. I don't know if there used to be, but there isn't one now. Among the updates I performed was the new kernel stuff. I did not use "rpm -i" with any of the kernel modules. I used "rpm -U" with them. I can only speculate that this may have caused my problem, but I do not see how. I have my main machine, kept updated successfully with "up2date", including the kernel update. So, I have a system from which I might download stuff from the Internet and transfer over to the Toshiba. Help??? Thanks! Ron. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP Personal Privacy 6.5.8 Comment: The last PGP with full source disclosure. iQA/AwUBO8yxG28pw+2/9pUJEQI93QCfVQmr9K/kRbtiO9IKjLlxolatTisAnR1Q 3ceiW69oPogRW14SjVtIi+w3 =7O75 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Seawolf-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/seawolf-list
