One of the joys of this new RH7.1 installation, is that I'm always getting new error messages, in the form of mail for root. It is an alert that comes when I log in (I don't automatically go into a GUI, so I see these messages at the prompt). Anyway, I type "mail", and get a long list of these mails. I would like to know what this one means, I get several like this every day:
& Message 23: >From root Tue Dec 4 09:35:23 2001 Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 09:35:23 -0800 From: root <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: ALERT servers/telnet: localhost (Tue Dec 4 09:35:23) X-Mailer: /usr/lib/mon/alert.d/mail.alert Summary output : localhost Group : servers Service : telnet Time noticed : Tue Dec 4 09:35:23 2001 Secs until next alert : Members : localhost Detailed text (if any) follows: ------------------------------- localhost: problem connecting to "localhost", port 23: Connection refused & ------ The thing is, I haven't been USING "telnet"! any ideas what this is about?
