Hi,
well I've not needed to do this since RH6.2 and I can't find a good
HOWTO that makes it just a few commands to setup a ppp connection ...

No I'm not a newbie, but I sure as hell feel like one when I can't
do this easily!

On RH6.2 I think I used linuxconf to setup my PPP connection - that
server still has the ppp connection setup but it doesn't use it
anymore - it's just ADSL now (and linuxconf doesn't handle ppp anymore
and I wouldn't want to use it if it did due to the number of problems
people have had with it since RH7.0 changing permissions etc)

I need to now setup a 7.1 system with dialup access but not using the
KDE internet-dialer coz it doesn't create a ppp0 that shows up with
the "ifconfig" command (or does it? and I'm just blind as a bat? :-)
I want to be able to use "if-up" and "if-down" (or equivalent) but I
can't seem to work out what is going on with the KDE internet-dialer
(or why it stores the ppp username/password etc somewhere other than
/etc/ppp/*)
The 7.1 machine will be a dialup router/server so I don't want to have
to use 'X' to start the connection every time

So - can someone point me to an easy HOWTO to setup the ppp connection?

The docs in /usr/share/doc/ppp-2.4.0/README.linux goes on about setting
up a /dev/ppp and a whole lot of other stuff that I know I didn't do
last time on RH6.2

Is there an easy way? Or do I need to setup all the config files manually
for a ppp connection (as per the ppp docs)

-Thanks for any help!
-Andrew
