Try rpm -q --changelog autofs (if you have the newer version installed)
or rpm -qp --changelog autofs-3.1.7-23.i386.rpm (not installed)

FYI I have been using autofs-3.1.7-21 on my Red Hat 7.2 box to pick up my
NIS maps. The NIS server is an Auspex (SunOS 4.1.4). I am using an
auto.master and an auto.rhome. The local auto.master has nothing (default).
I just uncommented the auto.misc line, and uncommented a few entries in the
auto.misc file, restarted, and they both work. You can take a look at the
/etc/init.d/autofs file, and find where it looks for the NIS information.
Maybe you can find something there.

Forrest
