Twice now I've had a cd-rw go bad (after about 85 rewrites), and both times the system hangs, and the caps- and scroll-lock lights flash on the keyboard. This last time I was at the console, and saw the kernel messages. It was having a problem with the IRQs related to the cdwriter, and said that it was killing the interrupt handler because it wasn't syncing (or something like that :).
Is there a way to capture the kernel error messages when this kind of thing happens? It didn't leave any messages in the syslog. My kernel version is 2.4.13-ac8, and the cd burner is a Hewlett Packard 9150i IDE. Have any of you had problems like this?
