This looks like magicdev, which checks every two seconds to see if there is
a disc in the CD-ROM drive when in X Windows.  This is beneficial, as it
will automatically mount the CD if you put one in the drive.  As a temporary
fix, you can enter `magicdev stop`.  A more permanent fix would be to remove
the magicdev package (rpm -e magicdev), or find the entry in the Control
Center where it has 'automount CD on insertion'.
