Hello Enigma Users, I have a RHL 7.2 system which has been running quite well for some time all around. I have most of the Errata installed too.
Last week, I suddently noticed 3 things had broken simultaneously... and I am suspecting there could be more, but the following I have verified do break break: (1) SSH Client complains permission denied about 3 times and drops to prompt when I try to do an ssh command line.... [root@foobar /]# ssh foobarserver2.com -l root2 Permission denied, please try again. Permission denied, please try again. Permission denied (publickey,password). (2) ftp client fails to stop at password prompt - just drops to ftp interactive prompt... [root@foobar /]# ftp virtual-webserver.com Connected to foobarserver3.com. 220-Welcome to your FTP home site. 220- 220- 220 foobarserver3.com FTP server (Version wu-2.6.1(1) Thu Aug 3 14:56:12 EDT 2000) ready. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. KERBEROS_V4 rejected as an authentication type Name (foobarserver3.com:root): root2 331 Password required for root2. Password: 530 Login incorrect. Login failed. ftp> (3) man pages end up with this error: [root@foobar /]# All, and I mean all of them, man pages, like "man ls" end up with this error at the shell prompt: Error executing formatting or display command. System command (cd /usr/share/man && (echo ".ll 9.9i"; echo ".pl 1100i"; /usr/bin/gunzip -c '/usr/share/man/man1/ls.1.gz'; echo; echo ".pl \n(nlu+10") | /usr/bin/gtbl | /usr/bin/nroff -mandoc | /usr/bin/less -isr) exited with status 256. No manual entry for ls I've been able to temporarily FIX the above 3 items simultaneously by installing a bunch of RPM's either updates or forced re-installs, but that does not always work, but when it does work, it fixes all three items. I emailed this to mikeharris at redhat and some others, and one told me to do a check rpm --verify -all and yes there were some permissions diff's (which is to be expected) but nothing serious showed up. IF ANY OF YOU KNOWS what is going on here, what on earth do these all have in common that could cause this mystery breakage, this is driving me nuts and I can't locate anything out of the ordinary - I've already run fsck -t ext3 and all is fine there too. I also ran a AntiVir for Linux with latest virus description file.
