If you are running the stock kernel, you should have no problems. The
following is from a machine running the 7.3 release, but the config
options should be similar.

$ grep CONFIG_MODULES
/usr/src/linux-2.4/configs/kernel-2.4.18-athlon.config
CONFIG_MODULES=y

$ grep CONFIG_SOUND /usr/src/linux-2.4/configs/kernel-2.4.18-athlon.config
CONFIG_SOUND=m

$ grep CONFIG_SOUND_EMU10K1
/usr/src/linux-2.4/configs/kernel-2.4.18-athlon.config
CONFIG_SOUND_EMU10K1=m
