hi,

have a little problem running nmbd. smbd -D is running, but nmbd is not.
looking with ps ax shows only smbd -D, nothing else.
trying to start again from console doesn't have an effect.
a shutdown like /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop results in an errormessage, that
nmbd FAILED to stop.

has anyone an idea, what's going wrong here ?

have a RH 7.1, on an AMD 300 MHZ and SCSI, 256 MB RAM an of about 60 GB
harddisks (all together, as there are 4 IDE's, 7 SCSI-drives) one harddrive
has 18 GB only for samba, but cannot get a connection from win98-box to the
samba-server.
a ping from winbox to the server mozart is okay, as well as reverse from
mozart to winbox. the physical connection looks fine.

my guess is, that winbox cannot see a running nmb-server, it does not see a
WinNT-domain and giving up.

now - where can I take a look for a not running nmbd-service ? is there a
log-file, and if so, how can make a configure, that some logs are written in
this logfile ?

thanks for helping
