That's cool, I see your point...

I should have mentioned that I didn't actually modify /etc/crontab
I give the following command as root user:

crontab cron_script

where cron_script is my text file containing the code I provided
earlier...this is typicially how I assign a cron job for regular users on
the solaris box I sometimes work on, but I've never tried it for root on
either linux or solaris...

I'll edit the /etc/crontab file as you indicated...thanks for your help
