What is it connected to? Is it on a network with an static IP?

If it's connected to a telephone line and a modem, they you're after
mgetty.

If the machine has a publically visible IP address, then you will want
to ssh (not telnet!) to the box.

If the machine is on a lan, then you will have to configure the gateway
of the network to forward a specific port to port 22 of your target
machine.

If you give more details, I can try to be more specific.
