Tripwire is an intrusion detection software. It is generally run once a day (or several times a day) to see if anything on your system has been altered. After it runs, it emails a report to the administrator/root user.
If you want to run an intrustion detection system, then you should use tripwire. Otherwise, you can disable it. To find out how to use the "mail" program, type "man mail" at the prompt. tHis will give you a manual that you can scroll through Michael Martinez System Administrator > -----Original Message----- > From: Shane C Branch [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, September 17, 2002 3:14 PM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: mail and tripwire > > > My root account has on the order of 300 email messages all > regarding an > error with tripwire.
