Hmm...  Well, the RedHat install selected the i686 ones (why?).  And it runs fine.

I know that the main difference between an Athlon and a Duron CPU is the amount
of on-chip cache.  There may be others.  I fear that the Athlon kernel may assume more
cache available than the Duron actually has.  On the other hand, the i686 kernel may
be sub-optimal for the Duron.  I just don't know.  I'd experiment, but I (a) don't have
time, (b) it's a production machine, and (c) I hoped someone out there already had the
complete answer.
