hello
I am running RH 7.1 on a server and would like to test backup & recovery of
the server.
I used the following dump command to back up the / filesystem
dump -0Suf rootfsdump /
I have installed RH 7.1 on another server. I copied the rootfsdump file in
the /usr/dump directory.
I have tried the interactive restore with the following command : -
cd /
restore -ivf /usr/dump/rootfsdump
add scripts/
add tftpboot/
extract
The above directories were successfully extracted.
I then added all the other directories found under / and on applying the
extract command, the server did not return the shell prompt .
the last line displayed is
/lib/i686/libc-2.2.2.so
If I reboot the server, the server does not boot properly.
grateful if someone could help me with this problem.
Regards
Madhvi
There was something that Linus wrote about not using dump with the 2.4.
kernel. He said that dump would DEFINITELY cause corruption, and that it
should not be used. You may be seeing this issue.
