My advice: If you don't know how to configure sendmail then don't try
to get sendmail running but install postfix instead. Postfix is really
easy to configure. Normally you only need to adjust 3 to 5 parameters
in the /etc/postfix/main.cf for the basic functions. And this
configuration file is really well documented. Every parameter has
several lines of detailed comments in front of it. Nearly every friend
of mine has switched to postfix in the meantime and all are really
happy with it. And postfix is also really powerfull in fighting
against spam (keywords: RBL, header and body checks, tarpit). Postfix
is also faster than sendmail and is one of the recommendet
replacements for sendmail id you have high traffix mailing lists and
sendmail isn't fast enough. Another advantage, you can chroot postfix
very easily it's actually the default if you install the postfix RPMs
from Simon Mudd: http://www.WL0.org/~sjmudd/postfix/.
I used sendmail over nearly 5 years on several mail servers and had a
couple of times severe trouble with sendmail. But now I'm totally
happy with postfix and will never touch sendmail again apart from
deinstalling it everywhere I find it. ;-)

Yust my 2 Euro-Cent
